This chapter provides a historical overview and the current status of the sea cucumber fishing industry in Northern Europe. Existing activities related to fisheries, processing, and trade in this region are mainly in Iceland and Norway, with the primary commercial species being the orange-footed sea cucumber (Cucumaria frondosa) and the red sea cucumber (Parastichopus tremulus). Current knowledge on species-specific biology, fishery management, harvesting methods, and landings is summarized. Furthermore, prospects on utilization, product diversification, and markets of Northern European sea cucumbers are presented.
