Laboratory and analytical services

Our laboratories are a key resource for both research and industry collaboration.

The analyses, experiments and development work carried out here form the foundation for new knowledge, testing and verification, always in close collaboration with industry. This work supports high standards of quality, professional development and the creation of value-adding solutions.

High-quality research

At Mørelab, we perform a wide range of analyses to characterise marine raw materials, including chemical, biological and sensory assessments.

This includes:
  • Chemical and molecular biology laboratory
  • Laboratory of living marine organisms (with aquaculture permit)
  • Process laboratory for storage and primary processing of marine raw materials

Our analytical services:

Consumer studies

We conduct in‑depth analyses of consumer behaviour to help businesses understand their markets. Through consumer surveys, living labs and other insight‑driven methods, we generate knowledge that reveals what consumers want and why they want it.

Quality and risk assessments

We evaluate both raw material and product quality, combined with thorough risk assessments of food safety and shelf life. Our analyses deliver the documentation industry needs to ensure products that are safe.

Sensory analyses

Our trained sensory panel delivers systematic taste, aroma and texture assessments, backed by expert panel management and modern analysis tools. The results give objective, actionable insights that support innovation and ensure consistent product quality.

Testing of new equipment and technology

We test fisheries and aquaculture equipment and solutions to assess their biological impact on marine organisms and the surrounding environment. Our results give industry partners the documentation they need to optimise performance and ensure safe, responsible use in real‑life conditions.

Biochemical and molecular biological analyses

We deliver advanced analytical services that give companies a robust foundation for product development, documentation and risk evaluation. Our portfolio includes recognised biochemical and molecular biological assays, ranging from cell‑based testing to full clinical studies.

Experimental site for marine organisms

Approved test site and aquaculture permits for experiments on species of salmonids, marine fish, marine crustaceans, marine molluscs, echinoderms and algae.

Examples of our analyses
  • Chemical composition
  • Chemical analyses of protein and nitrogen compounds
  • Chemical analyses in fats and oils
  • Pigment analysis
  • Molecular biological assays (PCR, sequencing)
  • Cell biological assays (bioavailability, bioactivity and health-promoting properties)
  • Protein assays (Western blot, ELISA, FPLC, UPLC)
  • Preclinical and clinical trials
